Basic Life Support (BLS)

The AHA’s BLS course trains participants to promptly recognize several life-threatening emergencies, give high-quality chest compressions, deliver appropriate ventilations and provide early use of an AED. Reflects science and education from the American Heart Association Guidelines Update for CPR and Emergency Cardiovascular Care (ECC).

Who should take this course?

The AHA’s BLS Course is designed for healthcare professionals and other personnel who need to know how to perform CPR and other basic cardiovascular life support skills in a wide variety of in-facility and prehospital settings.

What does this course teach?

High-quality CPR for adults, children, and infants

  • The AHA Chain of Survival, specifically the BLS components
  • Important early use of an AED
  • Effective ventilations using a barrier device
  • Importance of teams in multirescuer resuscitation and performance as an effective team member during multirescuer CPR
  • Relief of foreign-body airway obstruction (choking) for adults and infants

 Note:  The dates listed are for the Skills Evaluation portion of the course.  Completion of the BLS HeartCode is required prior to the Skills Evaluation.  Please email your HeartCode certificate to cpr@countyamb.com or present a copy at the start of class.  If there is no proof of completion, you will be rescheduled into another class until proof of completion is obtained.  County Ambulance is not responsible for incorrect enrollment.  

 

 

Description

Heartsaver First Aid Online offers the convenience of digital learning. The eLearning portion of the Heartsaver First Aid blended learning course is designed to teach students the cognitive information needed for first aid training. Upon completion of the online portion, students must complete a hands-on skills session (sold separately) with an AHA BLS or Heartsaver Instructor.

Heartsaver First Aid Course provides students the highest quality training in the lifesaving skills of first aid. The course empowers students to act with confidence in the event of an emergency at work, home, or in the community.

AHA 2020 Heartsaver® First Aid CPR AED Online 
 
This course is meant for the person who needs to know CPR and First Aid for their employment outside of a healthcare setting such as residential workers, daycare providers, and athletic trainers, as well as for laypersons who want the training.
 
The AHA 2020 Heartsaver® First Aid CPR AED Online is the AHA’s blended learning online method for the Heartsaver course. Blended learning is a combination of eLearning, in which a student completes part of the course in a self-directed manner, followed by a hands-on session. Designed for personnel who need to know how to perform CPR and other basic cardiovascular life support skills in a wide variety of in-facility and prehospital settings.
 
Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED Online is for the eLearning component of the blended learning course. It uses a variety of eLearning assets such as dramatizations, eSimulations, animations, self-directed learning, and interactive activities to teach students life-saving knowledge and skills. After completing the eLearning component, students will attend a structured, instructor-led course that focuses on meaningful skills practice, debriefing, team scenarios, discussions of local protocols, and skills testing. The online portion can be completed approximately 4 hours.

Heartsaver Pediatric First Aid CPR AED Online offers the convenience of digital learning. The eLearning portion of the Heartsaver Pediatric First Aid CPR AED blended learning course is designed to teach students the cognitive information needed for pediatric first aid, CPR, and AED training. Upon completion of the online portion, students must complete a hands-on skills session (sold separately) with an AHA BLS or Heartsaver Instructor.

The AHA’s Heartsaver Pediatric course is designed for anyone with little or no medical training who needs first aid and/or CPR training and a course completion card for job, regulatory (e.g., OSHA), or other requirements. Heartsaver courses can also be taken by anyone who wants to be prepared to act in an emergency.

The course is intended for those involved in childcare who have a duty to respond to illnesses and injuries in a child or infant in the first few minutes until professional help arrives. This audience includes childcare workers, teachers, foster care workers, camp counselors, youth organizations, and coaches for children’s sports organizations. This course is also ideal for parents, grandparents, extended family, babysitters, and guardians.

This course offers the flexibility of two different course paths:

  • Heartsaver – Shorter Heartsaver course path offers the flexibility to add optional topics. Add on optional topics when required topics are completed.
  • Heartsaver Total – Comprehensive course designed for those requiring training to meet OSHA or other regulatory agency requirements.

This course has been updated to reflect new science and education in the 2020 Guidelines for CPR & ECC and will replace the previous version (15-1404). If you are student, please confirm that this is the correct course for your class. 

This course is for individuals who purchased their HeartCode® online class through an entity other than County Ambulance.  You must provide a copy of their HeartCode® certificate either by email to cpr@countyamb.com or printed copy at the time of class.  If proof of on-line completion isn't present, you will be re-scheduled into another class until proof of completion is obtained.

Please allow up to 24 hours prior to the class to sign up to ensure instructor availability.  We reserve the right to cancel single Skills Evaluations by 4 pm the day before the class for lack of enrollment.

 

 

Heartsaver Bloodborne Pathogens Online

 

This progam teaches students how to protect themselves and others from being exposed to blood or blood-containing materials. This course is designed to meet OSHA requirements for bloodborne pathogens training when paired with site-specific instruction. This course provides students with the convenience of completing the course at their own pace wherever they have access to the Internet. It includes interactive exercises and videos to engage students and provide periodic points of knowledge transference, along with audio and transcript for students who may have a hearing or visual disability, and much more.

The Heartsaver® CPR AED Online course is taught in a blended learning format. Students must complete the online portion, followed by the hands-on skills session conducted by an American Heart Association Training Center instructor. Students who successfully complete the online course and skills session (sold separately), will receive a Heartsaver CPR AED Course Completion card, valid for two years.
